If those are cut outs, then it’s probably done to reduce weight. Less material, less weight, the trade off is you lose surface area for friction.

My best guess is that it’s suppose to have a similar effect as slotted rotors, since perhaps the OEM rotors are too thin to cut into. So they changed the shape to have more edges for more “bite.” Supposedly the edges of the slot in a rotor create more friction than a smooth one idk about that personally, considering the lose of surface area. However I think that theory would work better on these, since because of the squiggly edges the pad will constantly be in contact with a new edge, rather than having a smooth area between them like on a slotted car rotor.

Edit: You should buy them and do a brake test comparison!

more surface area for cooling. cut outs are for the same, little bit of weight reduction and cooling. as far as friction you lose, you can already lock up your wheel anyways, so its more like you are losing much. just remember to give it a wipe down with brake cleaner before the pads touch it in any way shape or form.

Allegedly heat dissipation but IMO they offer no performance benefits. An OEM style rotor would be be best.

Wave rotors get their name from the undulations cut into the outer edge of the rotor. They are usually drilled or slotted as well. Manufacturers of wave brake rotors claim several advantages over standard rotors. The wave design supposedly reduces the risk of the brake rotor warping, as the rotor is more flexible. The large surface area allows for quicker cooling, although there is a lower total mass to absorb the heat. They are also excellent in resisting mud buildup, due to their irregular design. This makes them an excellent choice for off-road motorcycle racing.

holes mean places gas can fart out between rotor and pads and the wavyness is so the brake dust can poop out between rotor and pads.
